Aftercare – Care for a Fresh Tattoo
Step 1: Initial Protection (First 3-5 Days)
- Your tattoo is disinfected, wiped clean, and covered with a premium second skin foil: dermalize phantom ultra thin, which acts as a replacement for your skin during the initial days.
- This foil protects the tattoo from dirt and infection, accelerating the healing process.
- Keep the foil on your tattoo for 3–5 days.
- If the foil comes off earlier, don't worry – simply begin the aftercare process sooner.
- It is recommended to remove the foil in the evening while in the shower, using a slow, gentle pulling motion without yanking.
Step 2: Cleaning & Moisturizing
- Gently wash the tattoo with an antibacterial, non-perfumed soap, such as Protex.
- Lather the soap in your palms and clean the area gently – do not scrub.
- Pat the area dry with a paper towel or a clean, freshly washed towel. Avoid using dirty textiles.
- On the first night after removing the foil, it's best to let the tattoo air dry completely.
- Starting from the second day, apply a light layer of moisturizer 2-3 times daily.
- Recommended products include natural shea butter, coconut oil, or specialized, non-perfumed tattoo creams.
- Do not use greasy, heavy healing ointments. For instance, Bepanthen on large wounds is not necessary for small tattoos.
Step 3: The Healing Period (Approx. 2 Weeks)
- Avoid sports and excessive sweating, as sweat can push out the ink and weaken the healing process.
- Do not swim in pools, or use saunas, jacuzzis, or public baths.
- Do not expose the tattoo to direct sunlight or tanning beds.
- Refrain from drinking alcohol and limit coffee intake immediately after getting tattooed. Alcohol can thin the blood, which may affect how the ink settles.
- Do not scratch or pick at any scabs that may form. Let the skin heal naturally.
Step 4: Long-Term Vibrancy
- Once healed, it is crucial to protect your tattoo from UV radiation by consistently using a sunscreen with a high SPF.
- Regularly moisturizing your skin will help the colors stay vibrant and saturated for a long time.
